How do I add an entry?

Open Capture, write whatever's on your mind, and hit Sort. xotes suggests a title, category, and tags, and the entry lands in The Book. You can also save without sorting.

What does the AI actually do?

Two things, and only two. Sort suggests a title, category, and tags for an entry. Scan turns a photo or PDF of text into an entry you can edit. It doesn't write your entries, interpret them, or give advice.

Is my writing used to train AI models?

Accepted Answer

No. When you Sort or Scan, that text is sent to Anthropic to handle the request, and Anthropic doesn't train its models on it. There's more detail in the Privacy Policy.

Can I change what the AI suggests?

Always. The title, category, and tags are just a starting point. Edit anything that doesn't fit. It's your entry.

What if Scan gets the text wrong?

It can, especially with messy handwriting or a low-quality image. Transcription is AI-generated, so give important details a quick read before you rely on them.

Who can see my entries?

Only you. Entries are tied to your account and private to it. No one else, including other xotes users, can see them.

Can I get my entries out of xotes?

Yes, anytime. Go to Settings → Export and you'll get your entries as Markdown files you can keep or move elsewhere.

How do I delete my account?

Settings → Delete account. It permanently removes your entries and any images you've added. This can't be undone, so export first if you want a copy.

Should I keep my own backups of my entries?

Yes. xotes isn't a backup service yet, so keep your own copies of anything you can't afford to lose.

Is it free? Will it stay free?

xotes is free right now. There'll be a paid plan down the road, but you'll hear about any change well before it happens. No surprises.

How do I change my password or email?

Settings → Account. You can update either there. Changing your password will ask you to re-enter your current one.
